I had C3-T2 posterior laminectomy & foramenectony with fusions for spinal stenosis 16 months ago. I had extreme weakness in the left arm. Woke up from the surgery with right arm involvement affecting my triceps & hand. I was told by my doc's resident surgeon that they worked a lot on C-5 & C-6 area. I have had continuous muscle spasms & pain in my right shoulder blade, shoulder & arm since the surgery. I mentioned this every doc visit. I was sent to PT. The results indicated I wasn't retaining strength.
I spoke to my doc two months ago because I am experiencing new symptoms of intermittent periods were I can't raise my right arm above my head. He said I may have a palsy developing or something going on in my shoulder. He ordered an EMG which showed chronic & acute nerve damage. Now he's ordered an MRI of my neck with & without contrast. I've also been experiencing burning pain in my shoulder blade and into my right arm. This pain has been intermittent ever since I've had the surgery but I'm noticing that it's coming on daily and I've got heavy duty muscle spasms. I don't know the reason for this & I am scared to death.
I need advice and I want to ask you if this can happen 16 months after extensive surgery when it wasn't present for 14 months? I have lots of hardware in my neck & have 6 levels that were worked on. The bone they removed particularly from C-5 - T1 was severe.
