My neck gets stuck in one position...either looking right or left from the center

Every day, several times throughout the day, my neck will become completely stuck....either with my head facing totally right or totally left. It generally takes me about 15 minutes to very slowly, and with me holding my head for stabilization. to very gently and with short increments move my neck back into a front facing direction. I awake every day with my neck stuck like this even though I use a high quality neck support pillow and lay on my back. Also, throughout the day, my neck gets stuck, too, and the disc also seems to slip out of joint and it slides out so as that I feel like my head will fall. My neck loses all support and it is like my neck will not support my head. This is very painful and scary. Is there any remedy for this that I can do at home with exercises or do I need surgery or a chiropractor? Thanks for any and all help and information anyone can provide me with.

Anything like this needs to be checked out by your doctors. It can be so many problems there is no way to help you on a forum. I would try to be seen by a spine surgeon. Don't worry it may be something simple but just get it checked out. To be safe. Also make notes of any issues you have (if you do) like dropping things or numb spots and or painfull and burning anywhere. I had a serious neck issue that I didn't know. My pinky on one hand was numb and I couldn't hold car keys for very long without them falling.

Just talk with your docs and make sure it's nothing serious before doing anything to it.

  • Hello Rick; Thank you so very much for your advice regarding my neck issues. I do, in fact, drop and spill things every single day. You should see the carpet in my apartment!! I really appreciate your suggestion to visit a spine surgeon because I did not think of that and was really hoping I could deal with it by exercises. I will follow your advice and I thank you much, again.

    Have a blessed Thursday, Karen

I would like to understand some more.

    When did this all start?
What doctors have you already seen about this?
    What medications are you on?
    What treatments have you had?
What diagnostic tests have you had? and what were their results

Being tight in one position or another, ok, but not being able to move it!
If you can not see a spinal specialist real soon, I would think about going to the Emergency Room. Like I said, this sounds far from normal.
