Recieved bad new today

I received a call from my infectious disease Dr that shattered my very soul. I mean how much can one person take???? The antibiotics did not work. With 7 spine surgeries under by belt here comes another one. A big one, one I dont want. Debridement of l4 thru s1 then fusion. He tells me dont panic yet, really????? he needs to walk a day in my shoes. He will consult with other infectious disease Drs this morning and call me later today. Ive just now recovered financially from all the other surgeries and not to mention my dream job that I planned on retiring from, I am sick over this

I am real sorry about the news you received. I am sure that is not what you were hoping for.
Let see if they can come up with a new and better plan.
Hoping for the best, meanwhile, hang in there

At least on what the plan will be, he did call to let me know he was having a consult last night with the other docs after hospital rounds so I should hear something today. I already know the answer we have discussed what would have to be done if the infection was still there. I have no doubt what surgeon he is gonna send me to will be part of the discussion. The surgeon I had seen this year I do not feel is a strong enough surgeon. Hes a great guy but he is retiring later on in the year and I need a surgeon who is gonna be around for the long haul. Beside he said he wouldnt operate until I was infection free for a year. At the time I was fine with that because I dont want surgery. My old surgeon whos life IVe put in his hands 5 times I love to death but he no longer accepts my insurance. Due to the stress of the news my pain is out of control. I dont see the new PM doc until the 20th so I guess it is just bite my bottom lip and work thru the pain.
  • sorry about your bad news ..we have enough to deal with on a daily basis as it is .hope things get better i know from my own experience that any extra strain /pressure is made 10x worse when you are already in pain ..its harder to cope
    take care

Although the news I received is not the news I wanted Im trying to be optimistic about all this. Once the infection is gone I wont feel so bad all time and hopefully I will recover from this surgery as well as the others. On a good note the pharmecy calls me last night and tells me I have had a script there for a week, my primary Dr called me in pain meds until I go to the pain doc. Relief at last! I cannot describe how bad I have felt for the last year, almost as if I was slowly dying and no one would listen to me that something was wrong. With a little bit of luck and the experience of a good surgeon all will be ok
