Happy Almost Spring!
My name is Diane, and I am returning here after a 2 year hiatus. I had a C6-7 ACDF in May 2011 with a full recovery. I have been experiencing low back pain with excruciating left leg pain and weakness for approximately one year. It all started out with bilateral hip pain, and now has progressed to my rear, hip, back of thigh searing pain, numbness in the front of my thigh, and tight calf muscles. My foot has recently started experiecing some numbness. My lower back really doesn't hurt that much, it is achey at times, but it has been that way for a long time (after having 2 kids). Anyway, here is my journey:
May-August 2012 - couldn't walk a mile (used to work out 3-5 days per week) - very painful hips Left more than right, difficult to stand
-visited Family Doc
-referral to Ortho
-Ortho ordered hip MRI
-found small tears in glutes and biceps tendon, Hip structurally sound, some swelling
-sent me to PT
-Cortisone injection in Left hip - EXCRUCIATING PAIN afterwards for weeks
-Ice, painkillers, Advil throughout summer, PT, No improvement pain in back of thigh begins
-MRI of LUmbar spine - moderate left L4 and L5 Foraminal Stenosis with nerve impingement.
-Two ESI - about 2 weeks mild relief
-starting seeing chriopractor and weekly massage (expensive)
-white knucked. No rx meds. Just boatloads of Ibu and Tylenol
-Could no longer tolerate pain, difficulty sleeping
-Returned to Primary Physician - placed on pain meds
-referral to Neurology - told to return to spine specialist
-2nd MRI completed on 3/15/13; waiting for results
-pain meds seem to help only minimally, and I have to take a lot (prescribed amount)
Just looking for thoughts and support here. Does this sound like candidacy for Laminectomy or Foraminectomy?
