I had S5/L1 discectomy laminectomy 5 weeks ago to relieve sciatica that resulted from back injury a year ago. Tried PT and three ESIs with no help. My recovery is apparently doing fine, but I'm getting anxious to return to a normal active lifestyle. My dr cautioned me to not lift bend or twist for six weeks and I've been compliant. During my post op I asked about resuming normal activity and he basically said to take it slow following the six weeks of very restrictive activity. He's probably afraid of the liability of my returning to too much activity too soon.
Is there any www site or other resource that I can use to get more specific guidance? I'd like to do some slow jogging and occasionally tennis but I don't want to undo what has taken me a year to repair. I know about bending my knees for lifting but there are activities like lifting a twenty pound baby from a crib where the correct posture isn't possible.
