23 year old male, 160 lbs, very active. An MRI confirmed a moderate herniation at L4/L5 in September 2012. No direct back pain, but I did have a very annoying pain deep in my left glute and tingling in my left foot and calf. Since then, the pain has slowly improved and the intensity and frequency of tingling has decreased.
However, standing in place makes my leg pain significantly worse and led me to quit a job in January. It's also extremely frustrating to still have pain, as I'm sure most of you all know.
Basically, my condition is slowly getting better, but every time the pain flares up I think about getting the surgery. The promise of immediate and permanent pain relief is very tempting. Should I go for it? Can I return to weightlifting after surgery?
