Unable to sit after spinal fusion

Hi I'm new to the site but wondered if anyone could help
After having chronic back pain for years and trying nerve block, facet joint injections etc I had my left SI joint fused in July 2012 this did take 1 pain away but After 12 weeks recovery my back pain increased so much that spinal fusion was my only option.
November 2012 had L4-L5 L5-S1 TLIF with 2 discectomy. From waking after the surgery I felt improvement from the back pain and nerve pain. Recovery has gone well. Came off pan relief and finally off gabapentin. Physio fortnightly, walking every day and walking in water most days.
Since the surgery I have had a new pain when I lye down it feels like I am lying on a hot pebble. It's on top of left buttock. This also comes on when sitting. I am unable to sit for more than 20 minutes without this pain flaring up, if I try and walk then sit then walk I have a line of hot pain, like burning ants across my buttock.
Physio is now concerned that my previous SI fusion is causing this.
Anyone got any ideas as I need to get this sorted to go back to work.

  • Just thought I would update, there has been little improvement in siting, I can now last 30 minutes but still having the ball of burning followed by a line of pain across the base of my spine, I have also started having a clicking/snapping from the base of my spine when I walk -im told that no metalwork is loose and fusion is starting to take place after further X-rays and CT scans followed by diagnostic injections it now appears that the pain in radiating from my left SI, surgeon plans to put in a further screw on left SI but also take out S1 screws from my spinal fusion.
Has anyone else had this happen?
