Does anyone have tips on losing weight to relieve pressure on the lower back? I have a lot of limitations at this point. I had surgery (discectomy and laminoforaminotomy on L5S1) in October for a massive extruded disc that was pressing into my nerve. Although my pain is much less, I still have a lot of pain in my thigh, buttock area, lower back, and a numb foot. I may have permanent nerve damage according to a NCS/EMG. I am still taking Hydrocodone/Lidoderm at night and Tylenol and Celebrex during the day. And no, I can't take anticonvulsants or antidepressants. I have been trying to walk my usual 2+ miles on days I don't work and keep up with some PT ex. that don't hurt. I have reduced my work week as driving exacerbates pain. I developed carpal tunnel in one arm several months ago and have another layer of pain to deal with. Living nearly a year with physical pain has made me feel tired and grouchy all the time. The only things I still enjoy are eating and music. I know I should eat less to take off 30 pounds. I eat a balanced diet but I eat too much and crave chocolate, sweets, and salty stuff. I also can't do too much fiber or milk products because of irritable bowel syndrome. I am feeling pretty hopeless about recovering even 80%. I see my neurosurgeon in a few days for my 6 month check. I feel that he gave me a fraudulent and overly optimistic picture of recovery from the pain and surgery. PT was not significantly helpful, and some of it further damaged me. I would just like 2 days where I don't hurt, sleep soundly, can move around easier and don't have to do anything. I am very tired of whining and want my life back. I know it will help my spine if I shed some pounds but I don't know how and I have no guarantee that my pain will lessen.
