Hi all

I have been suffering from sciatica for around 15 years. Over the last 3 years bouts have become more extreme and closer together. I have always been able to walk but not sit or stand when bad. However my latest bout which started 3 weeks ago has deteriorated quickly. I cannot stand/sit or walk without very severe pain down my left leg into foot.

Exercises physio gave me are aggravating pain. I am currently on naproxen, zydol and co-codamol and still having problems just sleeping because of pain.

I have booked a private MRI for this week just to see what is going on for piece of mind. I am also booking a different osteopath.

Having said all that, I was so pleased to find your forum today. I ask my family to chop my leg off a few times a day and I feel so frustrated that I can only manage 5 mins on my feet before pain becomes too unbearable. I continually feel I am letting my children down as I grew up with dad who had 3 back operations and mum with a 'slipped' disc which dictated everything we did as a family and I do not want the same for my children. Seeing that many, many people are suffering same systems has made me feel a bit more normal and given me some hope.

Thank you

  • I would suggest finding an ortho doctor to discuss your options. The MRI will determine the severity of your injury. From what you are describing.....it sounds like you might be a candidate for surgery, but this can only be determined by an Ortho Surgeon. I have had 2 microdisecomies and one lumbar fusion so I know the pain you are in :(
I wish you the best of luck Sarah!!

  • It seems strange that both painster234 and panly557 deny access when you try to find out about them/him/her... and they both ask the same question... I would love to be able to talk to new members or give support/advice, but find it frustrating when people waste our time with these posts... If you want our help please be sincere...

I'd recommend seeing an orthopedic or neurologist for them to review the MRI. They'll be able to give you an accurate course of treatment that is best for you and your health. After years of trying it on my own, I finally went to the orthopedic and after ALL of the tests and attempts at non-surgical treatments (unsuccessful) I am scheduled for a Lumbar Fusion on Wednesday, 5/1! Good luck, keep us updated!
