L2, L3 fusion

Having a surgery consultation on Monday for fusion of L2-L-3, very concerned about being able to go back to work after this surgery. I'm very independent and have very little family to depend on. My son still lives at home but I cannot allow him to help me wipe my tush. I've did a lot of research on this particular part of the spine to be fused. I have also already had two prior surgeries for the same herniated disk. What can I expect after about 4 weeks out? I don't know which procedure yet my surgeon will perform.

  • You'll still be able to wipe your tush :), even with all the fusions I have, this has never been an issue for me personally. Some people do experience some problems with that, and they do actually make a "tool" to help you with this, no son needed. Plus a good physical therapist will help you learn how to get shoes on, clothes on, etc, using a "grabber" and other tools if necessary. Fusions are a long recovery and should only be considered when everything else has failed, but if you are at that point, it should bring you lots of relief (after the main recovery which can take weeks). Let us know what the doctor says.
