Herniated disc

I'm 33 and I'm on month 5, of extreme back pains. I'm tired of going to the doctor and being fed more and more pain meds. I seen a physical therapist who ended up making it worse, to now I can't even feel my toes. Also for the past week I been seeing horrible bruises all over my left leg, 1 is the size of my hand and others about the size of my fist. And no I'm not in an abusive relationship, neither have I bumped into things. My leg is sore to touch starting at my lower back all the way down to my toes. I was referred to pain management for anesthetic shots into my lower back but I'm tired of doctors just want to scratch the surface and not do anything to make it better. I hate medications (pills), I'm a vitamin in the morning and my sleep medication at night kind of person, not all that extra extreme stuff attacking my body. I have tried from iceyhot, Bengay to who knows what else. Also I am not overweight, I eat healthy!
I need advice
1. Why am I bruising up?
2. Is it time for surgery?

I'm sorry for rambling I'm mentally exhausted as well, constant pain is not something I can endure much longer before I just want to hide under my bed (if I could) and cry

  • Sonya, it is mentally exhausting to deal with everything that comes with chronic pain. I just wanted to say "hi" and I hope you find the answers soon. This site is a good place to search on. Mine started when I was 34. I woke up one day and my life changed forever. I was 34 but felt like I had the body of a hundred year old. I remember feeling like I woke up in a night mare and couldn't get out of it. Things were happening to me that I couldn't believe it myself. I started to bruise really easy too. There was about 8 months that if anyone touched me I'd jump from from the pain. My nerve endings must have been flared up. What I have found with some of my pain from my neck, shoulders, head is that some foods affect it. Like sugar and wheat. I'm not allergic to them but I have noticed they seem to cause more inflamaition in my body. That's just a thought and it wasn't easy testing that out. Welcome to Spine-Health :)

  • Hi Sonya,

Welcome to Spine Health! There are a lot of folks here going through such similar things, and yes--it's frustrating and tiresome. This is not to say you would need any surgery, but I would recommend consulting a neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine surgeon that would likely order a MRI or other type of imaging to see what is going on and where it is. You deserve an answer! :-)

Glad to see you on here, and I hope you can soon get some answers.
