  • i assume you have had the prerequisite tests done to show all of the problems you have. did you have an mri, disography, nerve conduction test, and an x-ray and if you did, did a neuro or an ortho see you? Finally, do you have a pain doctor? If you have a neuro or an ortho then maybe surgery should be discussed. it is a crap shoot with back surgery and there are no guarantees but it is better than being in pain. it seems you have the test done, now all you have to do is find a guy to talk to and discuss possibly surgery. there are all sorts of surgeries beside fusions, especially now. when i had my first done, fusion was the main one done. go to your doctor ASAP and talk about surgery before the pain and the mechanics of your nerve, back, and leg get worse.
I have 4 fusions from L5-3, the latest last May '12 where they fixed my disc that broke. They went through my side this time. I take 40 mg of oxycontin 4x a day and 4 fenatyl lollipops 300 micro gms 4x a day.

I agree with Jon, get to your Dr. and explore your options. I hurt my back in 1967 in an auto acctdent and dealt with the pain only using medications when I really had to. In 1992 I totally blew my back( 3 disc ruptured at once), that night I was in pain. The next morning I was unable to walk, could not feel my legs. I required immediate surgery.
I have had 8 or 9 surgeries since along with more than a dozen other "procedures". I just got home from hospital where I had 2 more injections today.
Please for yourself, do something now. Good luck.

  • even though i tried to take care of my herniated disc as fast as i could with all of the tests, mris, it took awhile. and then i had to see an ortho so it was at least 6-8 months before my surgery. my leg, foot, toes, back have never been the same. i have chronic issues with right leg which have gone on for 5 or so years. so once again as others have said, get it taken care of ASAP or you might have permanent problems
