i posted in an earlier thread regarding getting an advocate for chronic pain patients. there are all sorts of advocates for breast cancer, prostate cancer, different diseases and on and on. there are no advocates for chronic pain patients though. it is a major disease which affects millions of people. you ask yourself why? i believe i have the answer. if a famous person got on tv, then they would be crucified by the everyone as a drug addict or a pill popper or a seeker. if obama got on tv and said i am a chronic pain patient and i advocate the use of pain meds to help under certain circumstances people would have a fit. congress would set up hearings and impeach him and on and on. if an actor got up, he would be in the National Enquirer with horror stories as a drug addict. Dr Drew would put him on tv. So what to do? I don't know if writing congressmen would help. i did once last year and never heard from them. So can we write congressmen or senators to complain? it would not hurt. Would it help? i don't know if it would. if someone knows someone famous maybe approaching them could help but that is pretty far fetched. i think the best would as many people as possible write their congressmen and senators and complain about the treatment of the media in particular. all we hear are stories about someone famous oding or going into rehab and they always say, i would die if i did not go to rehab which is ridiculous because if we take meds as prescribed no one would die. so if you have ideas, lets see if we can get on board and at least try. we need all of the positive publicity we can get to be taken seriously.
