    hello, tucker,
Weight loss is a very difficult subject as it can vary from every single person. Eating right is just as important as beginning an exercise program suited to your health issues. I honestly believe genetics play a part in ones ability to control weight.
Before you begin a program for weight loss it is probably in your best interest to consult with a physician and maybe a physical therapist. Personal trainers can be of help too but be careful on the trainer you select.
I can recommend what works for me but I know my routine is not for everyone and I admit my diet isn't anywhere near perfect. Most of all, diet & exercise shouldn't be done just on and off. It needs to become a lifestyle and make time for yourself almost every single day.
Good luck and I wish you the best,
  • Thankyou Ranger for your helpful as well as informative advice.I would surely follow your advice in future.
  • I had free consult with a trainer at my gym. He tried to convince me he was a spine specialist. I guess nobody ever told him that your legs can hurt when your spine is messed up. He had me do a ton of squats and then some elliptical work. I tried to tell him I couldn't do it, but he would not take no for an answer. I hurt like hell for about a week after that. Plus I have only been back to the gym once since that experience. I would go the physician guided route.
Discectomies 05/08 and 04/11, fusions L4-5 Feb 9,2012 and L3-L4 June 28,2012, Staph infection washout 3/2/2012, Bulged L5-S1. SCS trial on January 17th, 2014, which was a success! Permanent SCS on February 20th.

You can try using herbs to get rid of those extra pounds. But don't try everything at once. Educate yourself first on this or you can find a health adviser to guide you. I hope this would help you.

Benefits of Herbs in Weight Loss Programs

Natural weight loss herbs contain tonics that boost your nervous system. This makes you more capable of coping with stress and prevents you from emotional eating. Herbs make you feel positive and also give you the strength to exercise. They keep you feeling sated because of their high fiber content. Since you don’t feel hungry, you aren’t tempted to indulge in snacks and junk food. Herbs therefore help you lose weight safely and effectively.

    1. Guarana
Guarana is a diuretic that’s useful in helping you lose weight. It also stimulates the nervous system and helps you fight depression and cope with stress. Guarana thus helps you to avoid emotional eating, one of the chief causes of weight gain.

    2. Guar Gum
Guar gum is obtained from the Indian cluster bean. Since it contains lots of fiber, eating guar gum gives you a feeling of fullness that prevents you from overeating. It also decreases bad cholesterol (LDL) and helps control diabetes.

    3. Ginseng
Ginseng increases stamina and helps you to combat fatigue. It increases your capacity to do physical activity, and you can no longer use the excuse that you’re too tired to exercise. It’s also responsible for reducing blood sugar levels and helps you lose weight.

    4. Flaxseed
The seed of the flax plant has a coating of mucilage. This coating swells when exposed to water. If you soak whole flaxseeds in water and eat them, they act as bulking agents in your stomach and give you a feeling of fullness. They are neither digested nor absorbed by the body when soaked whole. By giving you a feeling of fullness, they prevent you from overeating and help you lose weight.

    5. Ginger
Ginger cleanses the body by reducing the stomach’s acidity and purging the digestive system of food lodged in it. This lodged food can cause weight gain, and the purging helps you lose it.

    6. Cinnamon
Cinnamon regulates blood sugar levels and cholesterol. The ability to regulate blood sugar levels makes cinnamon an important tool in the fight against fat.

    7. Green Tea
Green tea boosts your body’s metabolism and helps it to burn fat. Green tea is very beneficial in helping you lose weight.

    8. Glucomannan
Glucomannan delays the absorption of glucose from the intestines and helps you lose weight.

    9. Laminaria
Laminaria regulates the thyroid gland and helps you lose weight that you may have gained due to malfunction of the thyroid gland.

    10. Ephedra
Ephedra boosts your body’s metabolism, helping it to burn fat more rapidly. It also increases the energy levels of your body and is a very effective aid in the fight against fat. However, it is banned from use in the United States.

Weight loss herbs should be used in correct proportions in order to balance your bodily systems. It’s best to take them under proper guidance for maximum effectiveness in a weight loss program.

The main types of food you should be eating to lose weight is a variety of different veggies, especially leafy greens! You can also eat stuff like nuts, beans and brown rice. You should also eat lean meats and fish such as chicken, tuna and salmon!

You should also drink a lot of water and keep things like fizzy drinks to a minimum. Water helps in the weight loss process!

Anyone can lose weight by following a healthy diet and by exercising regularly. If looking to lose weight you should use a TDEE calculator, you can find this by doing a simple search on google. This will give you your maintenance calories based on your activity level. You should then take around 20% off the figure you get from the calculator in order to lose weight at steady pace!

You should also look to keep your carb intake low (really helps). This combined with a plan or workout program you WILL see results in time, you just need to be committed! Remember that change doesn't happen over night!

  • The food pyramid has been replaced with a plate (7inch)where 1//2 is veggies 1/4 in a lean protein, 1/4 is low fat starch ie potatoes with a small amount of butter. I always remember this when making my plate and it has been helpful. I do try to drink water and not eat after 7pm. that last one is hard after you get an epidural - those steroids make me hungry 24 hours for about a week.

Good idea necksoup, whatever works for you is the way to go. Each an every one of us has different metabolism. As much as I believe in exercise and staying active the key to maintaining a healthy weight is primarily through proper diet. Skipping meals and starving just doesn't work. Finding the right balance is key.

Hi, lots of good tips already listed but I didn't see processed/pre packaged food listed. Make as much as you can yourself, if you want French fries get a fresh, raw potato and go from there, you know what's in your food and lots of high fat food, junk snack food is not real easy to make from scratch. I really have to want onion rings to warrant the effort! An apple on the other hand, well it's quick and easy. Don't buy pre packaged food you don't think will help your weight loss. Read ingredients and go with natural flavorings and ingredients whenever feasible, if it's something created in a lab, I don't know that our bodies will be able to properly process it. Good luck, losing weight and maintaining that loss is challenging, be patient with yourself!

  • Healthy eating means getting a variety of foods in moderation but not making any food forbidden. Just eat mindfully by knowing the foods that make weight loss easier, and understanding key healthy-eating principles.

Exercise makes weight loss much easier so, do some useful games and exercise on regular basis.

Drink a plenty of water because it is very helpful in cutting your body fats so, drink more water as you can.

Don’t use chemicals and other supplements for your fast weight loss. You should need patience because there is no short cut of weight loss so, choose natural and organic resources like: fresh and health diet for your perfect weight loss.

  • Do a ketogenic diet. The weight will melt off.
    Seriously. I
  • Cut out your sugars and carbs. Then you will be able to lose some weight. Start an exercise regime as well.
  • I think it's very hard to lose weight without exercise but how can you exercise when you're in a lot of pain and just walking around the house is painful and slow?
  • Try the Paleo diet. It will be sure to help you lose the weight very fast.

Eat like a diabetic-cut out sugars and eat low carbs & walk all you can if possible. When I first found out I was diabetic I stopped drinking all sugared pops and with just that, without trying I lost 17 pounds. Also eat alot of salads-you can have a huge salad for lunch with baked or grilled chicken w/low fat dressing. Drink lots of water & last but not least do not eat fried foods.
  • Have you ever seen a dietician? They can help make you an eating plan, that is balanced and healthy without being extreme. I think with our spine conditions, it is very important to get proper nutrition. Many of the fad diets deprive you of essential nutrients. I would also suggest you steer clear of vegetarian diets as they lack the protein needed for tissue repair. A good start would be to start a food diary. Take this to the dietitian so they know what your current eating habits are.
