Had cortisone shot in L5-S1 both left and right side yesterday

I went ahead and decided to try the shot because of 2+ years of painful sciatica every night. The procedure itself was painful but not completely awful. I couldn't stand well or walk well after for a hour because legs were numb and tingly and felt as if they were going to buckle (and did so a couple times). I had some lower back dull achy pain like I was punched in back, last night. Took a Vicodin before bed and I felt some sciatica last night but nothing bad. It could have been a good night or maybe shots already helping. I can only hope. So far now side effects like rash, bloating, increased pain, etc... Any one have experience as far as when those side effects could occur or would they right away? I know this has been discussed but anyone know a average amount of time the shot provides pain relief for most people? Like most people get 3 mths? 6 mths? Year? I realize it varies from person to person as well.
Thanks and thus far I would say it was a good thing but Ill report back in a few days! I am suppose to get the cortisone shots in my wrists for carpal tunnel pain and numbness in 3 weeks. Thanks

  • I hope they last years for you though! Some people are 1 & done. My ESIs only lasted 1-3 weeks though. Most side effects are noticable right away. After my 1st shot I had a crazy panic attack 3 days later. Was it something in the shot? Was it just me freaking out about my back? I dont know but it was the 1st and only panic attack I ever had. 2nd 2 shots without issue.

    Good Luck!
L5S1 REMOVED herniation. Years of pain & compression. Microdiscectomy complete!! Trying to be super smart & safe with recovery!
