My Dr. has reccomended surgery for me, as I have 3 herniated discs, the one at c6/7 is pretty bad, pushing the spinal cord to make contact with the spine. Sorry if I dont get all of terms right, i do not know alot about this stuff. I am 35 years old, married with 2 kids(2 and 7), and surgery scares the crap out of me. Right now, I get fairly constant pain down my right arm, tingling in fingers on both hands, and sometimes my fingers twitch and move on their own, sometimes some pain in the right shoulder and back. This is all bearable to me, i try not to complain much about pain in general. Its been almost a year and the pain has not gone away.
My concern is if I do not get the surgery. My surgeon says i may be more at risk if something happens, like a car accident or fall, to become serious. I also have been told to avoid picking up heavy things, go on rollercoasters, over do it. With my kids and how I am, i find this impossible. If I do not get the surgery and continue to do the things I an not supposed to do, what can happen? Pain just get worse? or something more serious like becoming paralyzed?
Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated, My wife wants me to do it, as she is worried I am "walking on eggshells", but she is not the person who would be going under the knife, the surgery itself could possibly leave me paralyzed or worse off that I was before the surgery.
