scoliosis. female age 19 worst pain ever.. need some advice!!

When I was about 7 or 8 I was told I had mild scoliosis. Drs just shrugged it off. You can clearly tell by looking at me I'm twisted and hunched over..not completely but getting there. I have been having pains in my back for about a year and a half now. It feels almost like a pinching in my upper back next to my spine. And the pain goes all the way up and down my spine. Upper pain is worse though. I can't stand up for more then 10 minutes straight without being in so much pain.. I can't sit in a car or bend over or even lift anything without unbearable pain. Its taken my life away from me. I'm 19 and the only time I feel good is when I'm laying down.. pain in my ribs as well..hurts to breathe.. I can't ever sleep it feels like. Pain that is so bad in my back and ribs my whole body will jerk me out of a chair from pain. not sure what's wrong but I know something is. I need help nobody has helped me. I have trouble working. So I have no insurance advice please :(

Shan Marie i feel pain on my back too and i don't know what it is. I'm scared to know the truth. But my pain is a bit bearable. Are you taking any meds or have you seen a doctor? If no, you should go to one and ask for proper medications to help you ease your pain. Although there is no cure for Scoliosis, but it can be managed and the pain can be lessened. You can also have surgeries if you need to.

  • Are you in the USA? Try your local health department, start there. You do need a standing x-ray at minimum, maybe they can get you some form/type of care. Without insurance, it will be hard.... but you got to start some where. Best of luck to you. I'm sorry you are so miserable.
33yo mom of two. My surgical history...preadolescence scoliosis, kyphosis, and a hot mess.... 5 spine surgeries and lots of items added I wasn't born with (titanium, peek, surgical steel). Guess cremation is out. TSA loves me.

I have scolosis and pain as well. I'm convinced its the scolosis causing the pain...although the doctors keep telling me that scolosis can't cause pain. I doubt this...any abnormality that is twisting and pulling your body in unusual directions is going to cause pain. Check out my blog about my chronic pain at http://causticmatter.blogspot.com/?m=1.
  • I'll tell you what I tell everyone else. You have scoliosis, call the Shriners and see if, at 19, you can get help. I know they treat teenagers, but I'm not sure of the age turnoff. Call them now and ask. All their help is free...you pay for nothing. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I can relate to how you feel as I have been struggling with the same things for the last 3-4 years. Laying down is the only position I can get any sort of relief. Have you seen or spoken to a spinal specialist? If you haven't it is probably worth it. I hope you can get some relief from the pain soon!
