Has any member had a C1-C2 fusion?

I was told that this surgery is pretty rare. How many times had your surgeon done this procedure? How long was your recovery? Do you have any advice for someone who is facing a C1-C2 fusion in the near future? Thanks.

  • uhm usually C1-2 surgery is done out of desperation ie. car accident. most of the time if either is fractured you get whats called a halo. to keep your head stable. surgery is rare because those 2 discs/vertebrae if injured severely it usually means that person will not make it.
kind of an odd question, are you contemplating this??

just read all you can, and get a second opinion
    take care
  • would include consults at major big city hospitals, at least two with two different doctors, one ortho, and one neuro board certified spine surgeons who specialize in the cervical spine and I would want major reassurance that they have experience in doing this surgery, ie- how many patients have they operated on for this level? What were the outcomes? Successes or failure rates? What if the fusion does not occur? What are the options? What risks are involved and how often are negative outcomes seen in this type of surgery.........those would be my starting points.
