Hi all. I'm a F, 36yrs old with SI joint pain 30+ years...official diagnosis 4 yrs ago. Did tons of meds (painkillers), SI PT (aka core strengthening stuff), got an SI belt, etc. As issues continued to worse despite all that stuff, finally got an SI injection with steriod May 3rd. I had a glorious 3 weeks and my life back!!! Unfortunately that ended abruptly as soon as the drug wore off. Back to where I was before the shot. The shot was diagnostic that the SI joint is the source of the pain. My doc decided to do some testing to try to find cause. Tested for RA...negative. Tested for spondilitis...negative. TONS of Xrays...alignment...awesome. No fractures, spurs, other disease marks, good spacing, etc. So...basically have no idea why SI joint is causing pain!! By the looks of all the tests, there should be no pain at all. Yet every day I have mild pain as soon as I get up and often progresses to moderate pain throughout the day (basically I got out of bed). I have to take tons of Ibuprofen and 2-3 doses of Tramadol (100mgs/dose) just to get through a "normal" day. Oh, and god forbid a flare happens. Then getting out of bed just isn't an option and there doesn't appear to be a pain med that can even touch it.
I do see a chiropractor once a month...she has helped to try keeping things ok and I've noticed with her help I only get bad flares every few months rather than the every few weeks before seeing her. However, this last time I saw her it was during a flare and she couldn't do a thing. It was so tight and inflammed she feared getting it madder. Plus, she tried adjusting and nothing would budge due to the tightness.
So...now my doc is trying a new med...Meloxicam 15mg to see if we can get a handle on the inflammation. Also...another round of PT..this time with a kinesiologist. I must admit, I'm not feeling optimistic. Honestly if I hear I have to work on strengthening my core muscles I may go homicidal!! Those muscles are strong, trust me. In fact, that spiel they gave me was a double edge sword...yeah the muscles look great, but they also can give quite the powerful spasms now.
I am so frustrated as I am in pain every day and there doesn't seem to be a way to find out why, therefore no effective treatment. The shot worked, but only for 3 weeks. I feel like I'm going to be like this forever. I can't do anything other than lay in bed without having pain. Sitting too long, standing too long, walking, etc...all tick my back off. In order to do anything "normal" I have to take tons of drugs...which of course then you have to deal with the icky affects like stomach, headache, etc just for that little amount of relief to function. This just is so not a quality of life. I admit...I'm getting depressed....but who wouldn't. My life is being ruled by my back with no relief in sight.
Has anyone experienced this....SI joint pain with no cause per the tests?? Any advise?? Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!!!
