I had previously posted my story on Neck and back surgery (Far lateral L5-S1 microdiscectomy tomorrow...mistake?) but now that I've had the surgery on 7/18/13 I thought I should move my discussion to here. The surgery went well (I guess); the surgeon told me he found pretty much what he expected. And yesterday I felt great...I was walking around and doing pretty much anything (not bending or twisting) The pain in my leg and foot numbness were gone and my back was only a bit sore. I was taking robaxan (muscle relaxant) and ibuprofen. I have vicodin but didn't take any because in the past it makes me very nauseous. Well I lay down for bed last night and then things changed; I got pain back in my leg (the worst in a while) and pins and needles in my foot and the soreness in the back increased. I couldn't stay in bed (despite having an adjustable bed and trying every position) and spent the night in my recliner with only sporadic sleep.
And to make matters worse I took senna last night due to all the warnings I was given to avoid constipation and I've had stomach cramps, nausea and loose BM's all morning. I'm still hoping to go to a wedding (my girlfriend's son's) this afternoon. I think I can deal with the pain but I hope my GI tract settles down.
