Weakness in legs after Step 1 Nerve block

I was diagnosed with SI joint pain. I've had 2 steroid injections and neither worked. Therefore, I decided to move forward with the Nerve Block. Step 1 was to locate/confirm pain location which was L5/S1. Immediately after the procedure the doctor asked me to walk and I felt weakness in my legs (which is normal). Then I noticed as days went on it never went away. Informed my doctor and now he says it's because my chronic pain. It's now been 5 weeks and no change. Has anyone had this procedure and did this happen to you?
