Hi! I'm a newbie with back and leg pain

Hi everyone! It's so nice to have found this site and I am looking forward to gaining support, as well as giving support, for others who have similar issues. I started having severe right leg pain and subsequent low back pain about 5 yrs ago, just "out of the blue", but shortly after recovering from total abdominal hyst surgery (possible connection???). I first had a doppler ultrasound of my leg to rule out any circulatory problems and that was negative. MRI shows lumbar disc protrusions and moderate DDD with osteophyte formations. My treatment history includes epidural steroid injections, medial branch block, rhizotomy, and facet injections. I have been trying to avoid surgery, but am now to the point where I am seeking surgical consult. I am currently taking norco, lyrica, cymbalta, tramadol, zanaflex, but really not getting relief.

I am a 54 yr old housewife and mother of 2 grown daughters. I had a long career as an RN, but am no longer working due to these chronic pain issues. I am an avid animal lover and have a menagerie of rescued pets, including dogs and kitties. I also enjoy taking care of my tropical aquatic friends.

Congrats and many thanks to Ron and moderators for such an amazing website! I look forward to getting to know you!

  • Welcome to the forums! I am so sorry to hear that you're experiencing the continued pain without any relief from those procedures. Do you know what surgery they are recommending or that you are going to surgical consults for? I know there are a lot of people on the forums that have been in a similar situation and can shed some light on your procedures! Good luck and welcome.
