I had 2 cortisone shots, two weeks apart. My doc sends me to get a nerve blocker 6 days ago. To best describe my pain, is to say its like a live root being exposed from your mouth, only its running down my right leg to my ankle. The shot has made it worst. I find no relief as tears flow from my eyes to do the most simple task. In July of this year I was transitioning a child from a wheel chair to a special chair to do other activities in. I felt my back go as the child stiffened up on me. After that day, I could no longer help anyone lift the next three weeks I was to complete this job. I was given a Tens to take home and that gives me relief while on. Once off, the excruciating pain is there. I was given a prescription of 4mg of daldid but taking generic same thing. Directions are take one every 6 hours as needed for pain. I'm looking at the clock not wanting to abuse this med in anyway as I am afraid of addiction. Last night I thought I would do the tens and put my Voltaren gel on. I woke up at 6 and couldn't move. I cried and hopped to my safe on one foot to get a pill, I put the tens on for 15 minutes just to make it in the shower for work. I got in there and cried like a baby in pain and squat to try to maintain. I left for work thinking is this how its suppose to be? Ahh no way. I called my doc and I am going to ask for the surgery. I had a shaved bone done in April 2011 and the next day I felt like a new woman. I knew lifting was the cause of where I am now. I'm scared for the next shot. It's schedule for the 14th of this month. I am desperate. I'm working like this, walking in pain, forcing exercise upon myself and taking these meds that I am so against. Its affecting my physical being, my spirit and this is not the way life is meant to be lived. All these shots? I am hoping my doctor will do the surgery. I have good health insurance, but funny thing, my doctor of 12 years could do cortisone and surgery, but not nerve blockers. Makes no sense. Now I'm looking for answers on this site and I read horror stories. I want to smile again:(

Try not to get drawn into the horror stories. Remember that are so so so many more success stories than horror stories, if there weren't then surgeons wouldn't have many patients. I know how hard it is to work in pain, so many of us do... hang in there and keep moving as much as possible. Don't give up on that 3rd shot, sometimes the 3rd is the charm! And remember, you can smile anytime you choose. Best of luck to you. Keep us informed.
33yo mom of two. My surgical history...preadolescence scoliosis, kyphosis, and a hot mess.... 5 spine surgeries and lots of items added I wasn't born with (titanium, peek, surgical steel). Guess cremation is out. TSA loves me.
