Hello all. I have been lurking around reading since before my surgery and am just now posting. I had an l5-s1 herniation impinging on the nerve root causing sciatica, and numbness. I tried conservative treatment for almost a year, but my job is very active and I was taking two steps forward and three steps back. Finally I couldn't take the pain anymore and opted for surgery. The surgery was last Tuesday so I'm 5 days out. The first night was rough for me. I am apparently sensitive to Percocet so it was a pukapoolooza the first night. The next morning i called the office and they wrote me a script for Vicodin and ondansetron for the nausea which is what I've been taking for the last few days. I was at my mom and dads house for the first two days while my husband stayed home an hour away with our little girl (she's 4). Going home and being able to sleep in your own bed is the most wonderful feeling. I felt the pain was retry manageable until yesterday. I have been walking down my driveway a few times a day, changing positions frequently and not twisting or bending. Yesterday my lower back began aching and it has been hard to stand up. I'm of course terrified ive re herniated something. It was hard to get comfortable sleeping last night and although the sciatica is pretty much gone from what I can tell, my leg feels like its cramping a little. The numbness is still there which I expected. I also expected back pain but I'm concerned because this pain feels different than it has since the surgery. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it's the nerves healing. I also wonder if I have separate issues from the herniation. Thanks everyone for writing and sharing. Your stories helped me not feel so alone. Glad to be here.
