New pain 11 months post-op ACDF

It's been 11 months since ACDF c5-6. Recovered very well, have had no issues. Lately more neck soreness- I'm sitting at my desk over the computer most days. Starting to have shoulder pain, more down arm. Same side as a year ago. It is bringing back bad memories, do NOT want to face any new issues, I am at a critical point at work with deadlines through next spring. Has anyone had the experience of pain restarting after almost a year with NO symptoms? I sometimes wonder if stress plays a part in all of this.......my biggest fear when I opted to have the surgery was starting years of new herniations, more surgeries! Would love to hear from anyone

  • Really hard to say.
Sounds like your recovery went very very well.
I had 2 levels ACDF in may of 2012. My symptoms never completely went away. The major back pain did. But some of the extremities pain intermittedly occurs.
Are you exercising ? Exercise helps alleviate a lot of my pain. Elliptical machine, and/or treadmill walking. Then i do my PT type exercises.
You know the drill with symptoms and all this.
One thing I notice is that weather patterns shifting tend to affect me a bit. The cooler weather lately made my neck more sore I think last week. But this week not so much. With all this stuff, it is so hard to say what is and what isnt causing pain, especially without MRI.
I couldn't imagine what this was like even 20-30 years ago.
  • I called and spoke to nurse. They ordered an MRI and xrays before I come in for appt. I guess I would just like to know- did I fuse properly? Is there any adjoining areas going bad? I know it is common for the adjoining discs to go bad as they take on more load. That's what makes me nervous. So I guess I will wait and see. Thanks for the suggestions.
