I am having this surgery next week and I am very nervous. The doctor called it this but the insurance is calling it anterior diskectomy and fusion, are they the same surgeries??

ACDF is the most common anterior surgery on the neck. There is a lot of information on this site about this surgery and the recovery.
I haven't heard of a laminectomy being done from the front before although I do know people who have had a laminectomy from the back (posterior).

There is a list on here of useful items to have after surgery. I will post a link for you. Please don't be alarmed at how long the list is. It covers lumbar surgery as well as cervical.

You are likely to have a sore throat for a while afterwards. I found that ice cream was absolutely the easiest thing to swallow down and the cold helped with the sore throat.
Bendy straws are useful because you won't be able to tip your head back to drink.
Lots of pillows to help you get comfortable.
A grabber to pick things up - you will be amazed at how often you drop things when you can't bend down to pick them up!

This is a great place to come during your recovery to be able to talk to others who have been through this before you and will have ideas to try to get you comfortable and we understand what it is like.

    What day is your surgery?
  • My surgery is actually tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for the information you provided.

Will pray for you. I had very little pain after surgery. Just a sore throat the doctor gave me some OTC sore throat spray. I had problems swallowing for about 2 weeks so it was easier to eat soft foods like yogurt, pudding, soup, mashed potatoes and ice cream. I actually had no problems sleeping I slept laying on my side in bed with a small pillow under head and hugging a body pillow between my knees. Keep us posted.wishing you a speedy and painless recovery.
