So I was recently prescribed Neurontin for sciatic pain and am a bit worried about the way it has made me feel. Specifically after only two times using I had immediate and intense drowsiness, followed by long periods of sleep, headaches and strange dreams, and fever symptoms like feeling hot and cold at the same time. When I woke up I felt annoyed and I just wanted to go back to sleep. Needless to say that after taking other pain meds like Vicodin, Tramadol, ibuprofen etc. I am a bit nervous about the way this medicine has made me feel. I mean I guess I may just have to get used to how this works, but I am at a loss as to why my doctors would rather give me a medicine with so many side effects just to avoid opiates. I mean I'm feeling kind of lost with my doctors as I feel that there is a disconnect between what they think and what my situation actually is. And frankly I'm just tired of taking so many pills for my back, and now my stomach because the NSAIDS ruined my stomach and gave me gastritis.
I mean has anyone else taken this medicine and if so, do the side effects diminish after use? Because its started to seem like my docs really don't understand that while I am having issues with my discs, I still need to function and feel like a person. I still want to live a normal life and exercise and feel energized, not like a senior citizen when I'm only 19. And I guess this Neurontin might work for some folks in their older years, but I cannot stand to take meds that make me feel extreme sleepiness and mess with my head.
Please if you know how this stuff works or you have experience with these drugs, please share because I'm not sure if I should insist on something more suited to me and my life or just try to work with these meds they've given me.
