Neck Pain

I have had dsxz2 different lines of pain in my neck and shoulder on the right side for several months with an enlarged lymph node. The pain seems to be originating from under the node. I have had a needle aspiration and the results were benign but the pain has not disappeared. When the node became enlarged I was given antibiotics. Over the last 3 months I have had 4 different antibiotics and 2 different muscle relaxers which have not made the pain go away not get the node to reduce in size. Now I am starting to have pain under the jawline and in the front of the neck.

If this pain is muscular should not muscle relaxer work? If this is not a muscular what could it be? I have tried sleeping with different pillows, no pillows and 1 pillow. No change. I can no longer tolerate the pain and need to determine what if anything can be done to eliminate it.

What type of physician should I make an appointment with? Would an MRI or Pet scan help me ?? Would a neck brace help? I feel like if I could lift my head up off my shoulders the pain at the bottom of my neck would go away.

Please provide some guidance.

  • The fact you have an enlarged lymph node suggests that it may be pressing on a nerve. Was your needle procedure performed by a specialist? Did you discuss having the excess tissue removed?
