Hello :)

My heart goes out to anyone feeling pain or having to deal with any of the issues related to this site. Back pain, chronic pain, is horrible and not something everyone understands. I am new here, obviously, and am just looking for a place to find support and ideas for dealing with my pain. I am a 37 year old Mother of 3. I had a micro disc on my L4 L5 in 2008, and found out after that I had permanent L5 nerve damage. Then some how, I extruded what was left of that area in July of 2012. The pain was pretty bad and I was limping around but I got around. I was given muscle relaxers and pain meds for but then I was diagnosed with complicated migraines and fibromyalgia. Oddly enough I had to give up all pain meds including otc ones because they bring on the complicated migraines. I started having intense pain this past spring in my back and leg and come to find that I have a bilateral herniated L5/S1 disc. Since I can't take pain meds thank goodness I am in VT where medical marajuana is available. It's the only pain medicine I can take. My neurologist says it helps her patients more than anything. I also have neuropathy in my left calf and foot, not diabetic...anyone heard of this? I have a few other back issues, spondolytis (spelling?) in my lumbar region, and serve stenosis. I am doing acupuncture, chiropractic work, pt...everything I can and nothing is working or it seems that way. I sleep maybe 2 hours a day for 3 weeks at a time and then crash for a few days and then stop sleeping again because of the pain. I never knew my favorite blanket would become something I didn't want touching me. I went from being an energetic Mom to someone who can hardly walk most days. I have gone gluten free to help with inflammation even. Sleeping suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • I suffer from fibromyalgia, migraines and a few other issues. Sleeping has been almost impossible for me I finally got so fed up with it I called my Dr to see if he could help he prescribed amitriptyline to help with sleep issues and not only does it help with sleeping it can also prevent migraines. Since I started taking it I have had only a few migraines. I also drink sleepytime tea and take melatonin. It had been allowing me to get a few good hours of sleep. I just had a discectomy and laminectomy last week so pain is a little higher than my normal and I have had a few sleepless nights from the pain. You can also use lavender oils, candles, soap.
Hope you find something that works for you. Good Luck.
