Hello from London .... nervous

Hi - would like to say thank you to all concerned at spine-health. I am 57 and have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the spine/facet joints, parfticularly at L3/L4/L5 and S1 .. bilateral, but worse on the right. I cannot really remember a time without back pain but it has escalated very badly over the last seven or eight years. Have tried all conservative treatments from facet joint injections, epidurals, nerve blocks and 'quick, get me out of pain now' cortisone injections with my rheumatologist. Now with an excellent spinal pain specialist who has also thrown in the towel so to speak and I am meeting with his surgeon of choice on Saturday to discuss laminectomy/fusion. Obviously in the UK we may use different types of graft etc, but have done a lot of research and am sure that in a very good hospital in central London, there cannot be too many differences in what is available. I am anxious mostly about recovery and possible new pain symptoms further up the spine and how to deal with how my back will move in the future. I think we are talking about two separate ops, as L5/S1 looks to be the most urgent.
Any tips for asking the right questions would be helpful. Many thanks .. Amanda
