Not sleeping

Hi everyone. I am almost 7 weeks post op. Any suggestions on getting to sleep at night. I just cant sleep. It it not due to pain. I do have discomfort in my legs, but I don't think that is it. Any suggestions?

  • I take my muscle relaxer, klonopin and a sleeping pill, but I'm usually up after 2 hours tossing and turning. I try not to take my pain med - Norco, because it keeps me up at night, even with all the other stuff I'm taking to help me relax and sleep. I didn't sleep well again last night, so I'm doing my med ritual now, and hope to sleep a few hours before signing in to work 4 hours late. I can't get comfortable with the collar and I think that's a huge problem because I am sleep enough

  • I'm 12 weeks post fusion at L4-L5 and have had chronic sleep disturbances. Elavil didn't help. Trazodone helps a little but I still wake up three times in the night. A friend told me she had sleep problems for six months after major abdominal surgery. Her theory is that all the anesthesia and various other drugs you get in the process of surgery stay in your brain tissue a long time since most of them are lipid soluble and they play havoc with the brain's sleep mechanisms. I have tried valerian and melatonin with a little success but mostly I guess I'm waiting to see if my friend is right.
  • I was wondering if it could be that I am cutting down on my oxycodine? Last night I didnt have any caffeine after 7pm and took Advil PM. Did fall asleep at midnight got up at 3am and then did get back to sleep till 9am. I start work again part time on Monday, so I have to get some sleep. !!!
