It will be two weeks tomorrow from my second back l4 l5 surgery. Five years ago I went to hospital in pa with horrible pain shooting down the front of my left leg. The hospital;said
I needed back surgery but I was loaded with very large kidney stones in both kidneys. I had 5 Lipotripsy procedures which is ultra sound to break stones up then I had back surgery I was 41 and it was months of hell! I am now 46 and right before the holidays it happened again except pain was down my left but cheek down to the knee. They wont do kidneys till back is better this time. When I came out of surgery the back pain was better but now my left leg is cramping and my left foot feels like a frozen ice block. I have such numbness in left leg I am scared to death. My doctor is against pain meds he calls them stupid pills so I am using nothing but worthless ben gay on calf. I have saved many pets ducks, rabbits so my husband is so burdened by me down. I cant stop crying I am soooooooo scared I will never get my very busy life back. I was so glad to find this site but so saddened to hear of everyones pain. Thank you for listening to mine.

  • Hi Loriz, sorry to hear about your pains. I have some pains of my own. No kidney stones, just back problems.
I herniated my L4/5 in July 2011, lots of numbness in my foot and leg, then had a discectomy December 2011.
Still had numbness & a sore lower back. Im a Contractor so I use my body everyday doing stuff, but trying to be
careful as well. I was doing well and noticed the numbness was gradually going away. Just before Thanksgiving
I lifted a compressor and felt something weird in my leg. No big deal and was fine for a few days, then my back
was very sore, then my leg started to get sore. The next morning my leg was on fire when I stood up. I lasted 2 days and
went to the ER. THey just drugged the day lights out me and sent me home. I saw my surgeon and he ordered a MRI
and the L4/5 re-herniated big time. It completely obliterated the nerve going down my left leg.! My foot, lower leg, knee are
all super numb. My thigh is sore all the time and I limp when I walk. I tell me friends I had a leg stroke. I have surgery very
soon and I will repost after that! Owww!
  • Hi! I am very sorry u are having to go through this again. I will send all of my positive thoughts thatthis surgery will be a perfect success. Noone can understand that you use your back for everything and once its down the pain is unbearable..Its so strange that we went in with horrible back pain and now have problems with our legs and numbness. Please let me know how you are doing and I will pray you can get your life back soooon!!!

  • I use a product called bioFreeze on my legs down the nerve paths that I have problems with. You wouldn't think it would help as much as it does. I always feel crazy putting it on my legs because I know that's not where the problem is but it really does help quite a bit. I also use it on my back and neck when needed. Bengay doesn't touch nerve pain. I'm limited on my pain relief options due to increased creatinine and other problems so I have to treat everything topically. Have you tried Celebrex? It's a prescription only, non narcotic, very wonderful anti inflammatory. I wish I could still take it. It worked wonders for me.
