Sciatic driving me insane !

So it's 4:34 and I've been awake sine 3:20 am with the pain in my leg . I've had sciatica for nearly 12 months I have been given cocktails of pain relief and had a nerve root block but that didn't work. I'm now on the list for an operation which I really wanted to avoid . My disc is prolapsed and is pinching my sciatic nerve and it appears that unless I have the operation this pain is here to stay. I am 30 years old and can't believe how this condition can make you feel . I've been in and out of work but due to financial commitments I am unable to stay at home. It's become normal to be awake at ridiculous times and the pain in my leg is with my every moment of the day ! So frustrating when I heard of people in the past saying "I've got sciatica " I didn't think it was that bad just a bit of back pain. I think the hardest part to get my head around was why does my leg hurt and not my back ! So the hospital that are supposed to be treating me are a joke , it took from last April until July to view my MRI scan , I ended up in A & E then they requested my scan imaging in July. I finally had a nerve block in September which didn't work then my MRI scan ran out they took that long to deal with me .so off I went again for another MRI scan 9 months later to be told I'm on the good old waiting list . Really why does NHS take so long well that's my grumble over and I hope to be seen in the next few months fingers crossed .

Ow feel for ya!! Yeah its weird having "back" probs but its really the leg thats in agony, I had to clarify that with ppl a lot too. I'm 28 and 11 weeks post surgery for my sciatica after 6 months of "waiting for the sciatic pain down the leg to hit the road" but it didn't seem to be getting any better. Good on you for getting things rolling. I've learned that with sciatic pain not many people will understand what your feeling even the Drs. So again I just wanted to say I'm really happy for you that you are going to get an operation, I doubt you will regret it after putting up with that pain for so long!! Be excited! Life without that stupid pain a reality soon not just a distant memory!! yay!

Thanks for the reply ooh life without sciatica what will I do ! Perhaps all of the things that I was able to do before , I've had an update from the hospital and going in next week to meet my new spinal surgeon , so my suggestion is anyone who is suffering and not being treated accordingly write to your local MP , it is amazing how getting them involved helps things along . Don't suffer and just accept your on the good old waiting list as the consequences of nerve damage could be devastating.
