I am new to the forum and my dad was just diagnoses with DDD C3-C7. The xray results stated it was moderate to severe and due to marginal osteophytes. Doctor also said it was affecting some of my dads nerves. Not too sure what everything means but my dad is suffering severe pain in his shoulder and neck. He is currently taking Advil for the pain. The doctor said surgery will be required. My dad is 55 and active.
We are being transferred to a specialist within the next week. I have been browsing the forums on others experiences. I have come to a few conclusions. Surgery will not heal the pain but can deal with the nerves being affected, things can become worse after surgery and also it will take more than a year to recover.
We are quite afraid at the thought of a surgery. Can anyone shed some light on how risky surgery will be? Any advice or further info will also be very appreciated!
Lastly, I am located in Toronto, can anyone recommend some top physicians or specialists?
I am very grateful for the existence of this forum as it has been very informative.
Ps. The results specifically state
"DDD C3 to C7. There is moderate to severe narrowing to the left C4-5 intervertebral foramen. "
