Hello, I am trying to get information from anyone who may have had or know of anyone who has had a spine fusion in their 60's or better. My mom is 68 and has severe scoliosis. The curve is compressing nerves and causing a lot of pain. Her doctor suggests the fusion due to the nerve issue and constant pain. I am concerned because in itself it is a very major operation, but I am also concerned how she will do with her age. She is healthy otherwise, but I want to find someone comparable in age and condition to see how they did, any advice they may have, what to expect, etc. If anyone could provide some reassurance or insight, I would be grateful. I mostly want to know how patients of this age have done many months after the surgery, has it improved their life? I know it is very difficult soon after surgery, but is it worth it? Thank you for any help.
