Failed Back Surgery Syndrom

I know FBSS is a casual term, but I am seriously considering lumbar revision surgery. I litterally have tried everything else and no relief. Who has had revision surgery for a graft that didn't fuse? Did it help? I am fused from L2 to S1 (7 years ago) and recently experienced a compression fracture at L1 due to a fall and osteoporosis. One bone graft didn't fuse during the surgery. I have a spinal stimulator am on Nucynta ER and have tried all manner of infections.

  • attempt to preserve my ability to walk, along with a redo of a fusion that failed, and to replace two screws that had loosened and started backing out of the vertebra....
The issue is that any further surgery also creates scar tissue, in addition to what you already have, so there could be further damage, however if the fusion did not take, and there is any movement of the vertebre or the screws or rods are loosened, it might be worth discussing with another surgeon.
