Long story short, I had a microdisc last Oct, i am 4 months post op (19 weeks) right now. Well ive had sciatica pain in both legs since surgery (only had it in one leg before). The affected leg before surgery is MUCH better - i get pains in it maybe once a week and my weakness is alot better. Now my other leg has ALOT of sciatica pain, no weakness tho. Ive noticed the pain arrises in this leg if i walk too fast (not running or anything). Like today, i woke up with LOW pain, then i was in a hurry to leave the house (running late) so i kinda rushed around for 5 min to get my stuff and go. And now im in ALOT of pain again (6-7). I dont get it.
I had a follow up MRI a month ago and my dr said everything looks great and to do PT. Well ive been doing PT, my last week is next week and although it did help some im still far from 100% better. I feel like maybe 40%....
i just dont get whats causing this opposite leg pain when i walk. i want to walk more to lose some weight and get healthy but i just cant.
i even took my MRI to a new neurosurgeon to get a second opinion. when i walked in he said to me "you have a really good back!" i said "well you coulda fooled me" then he wenton to say my MRI showed no nerve entrapment, hardly any scar tissue and definitely no disc rehernation. my disc heights are all "very good" and he doesnt see why i still have pain. he went on to suggest my back muscles might be tight and causing inflammation and to try a medrol dose pack and more water PT.
i mean im glad to hear my discs look so great but i feel like a crazy person - all this pain and no cause.
my cycle is i walk too much (maybe a 1/4mile in 30 min) and i have a ton of pain. so i spend 2-3 days not doing much of anything, just staying home not walking. the pain goes down to a 1-2. then i walk again, bam, pain is back.
ive also noticed i have alot of popping sometimes slight grinding sounds when i use my right leg (the one thats hurting now). so i wonder if its my hip or something in there, can that cause sciatica?
just thought maybe someone here had some advice?
