I need to reach out for advice so I'm glad I found this site.
April 2012, was first surgery with hardware. L4/L5 collapsed and was on a nerve. November 2013 --- 2nd surgery to remove the hardware as a screw moved and was impinging on a nerve root; plus little bit fused had torn apart. December 2013, was the 3rd surgery which involved fusion of L4/L5 & hardware once again!
I have bursitis in both hips; although the left is worse (all my pain is left side prior & after surgeries); and my goodness the pain in my hips, back of thighs & calves is more than I can bear at times. Surgeon stated Friday the fusion changes our gait (way we walk) & way we hold our spine -- which in turn causes the muscles to" forget their place." Hence, the muscle spasms and pain. He stated eventually, they will get used to this new "position" and the pain will diminish; however, it may take quite a while ! ? ! This muscle issue is causing the bursitis - which on it's own is a beast to bear!
The more I move the more the bursitis hurts and the more pain in the hips and legs. Obviously, my muscles are weak due to 3 surgeries so close in time. The only way decrease pain is sitting and not do much (knitting is my new BFF!)
I just can't seem to make headway. I'm on one pain medication which does little. I have an appt with the Dr. on Thursday and wonder if anyone has any advice or suggestions regarding muscle relaxers / pain medications - - or - - has anyone dealt with anything similar? This evening I played with my grand-child and by 7pm I was ready to cry my legs throbbed so bad. It's 11pm now and feels like it's going to be a long night coping with the pain & throbbing.
I'll take any and all suggestions or idea's be it medications / exercises / anything to try and get my life back!
