Continued pain! Not sure what to do

I posted a few months back and have been trying very hard to get well. I had an injury to my back December 2012 from shoveling snow. Long story made short after an initial 4 months of treatment , couple of epidurals and continued pain I sought a 2 nd opinion from a neurosurgeon. He found a piece of fractured disc sitting on my main L4 nerve root and recommended surgery. I had the surgery last may 2013 and have never been able to return to normal. I continue to have low back pain and have tried everything, PT, acupuncture just not pain meds as they don't agree with my system.

A week ago I had a massage and now am a lot worse. It seems like I have more numbness in my leg and oh my back hurts! I am so discouraged because this has gone on far to long! I just want my life to return to normal. My daughter is sad to have a mom that can't do anything and I am ready to give up! I have made an appt to see my neurosurgeon in a few weeks and also I made an appt to see another orthopedic spine specialist in a month! Not sure how I will manage.

Anyone else have this recurring nightmare? Do you think a massage could have re herniated something 9 months out?

Prior to myinjury and my surgery, I loved a good massage. I had a membership to a massage club.as a matter of fact when I first felt the pain and realized that I injured my neck, I went and had a massage 2 x that week. The massage did not help. I went to a chiropractor who also had a massage therapist and had a massage once a week. Nothing helped. After injections, an MRI and a consult with a neurosurgeon, I had a multi level cervical diskectomy with fusion. There was some relief but I never went back o normal.i kept waiting for my recovery to be complete.i had a nerve conduction test and found that I had nerve damage att the root. I have stopped having massages because the last one I tried was with a physical therapist and I suffered for at least a week after that and I had specifically told her not to do anything deep. I don'T know why but having a massage turns my nerves on fire.
