How soon is it normal to see atrophy after neck injury?

edited 09/30/2014 - 2:48 PM in Neck Pain: Cervical
I was in a car accident 2 weeks ago. Within days I had soreness from behind my right ear to my middle finger on my right hand. This progressed into swelling in my tricep, pain in my collarbone and upper back, and numbness in my fingers. 3 days ago my shoulder started spasming and I have not noticed it is lower (2-3 inches) than my left shoulder. The neurologist says probably a cervical herniation. I'm wondering how long does it take weakness and atrophy to show up? I was showing weakness after 1 week and atrophy after 2 weeks - is that really fast or normal?

I have no idea what the answer would be. Did you ask your Dr? Every person is different and its hard to say if they would even have an answer for that. It took me up to a year to get that far. I didn't have an accident though. I had issues very similar to yours for 2 yrs on and off and then had an every day issue after that for months before finding the issue. Did they do an MRI yet? I would think that they would want to do one to get a diagnosis. I don't know if they would wait the 6 weeks to 3 months time frame before they will do something like they make most people wait when it progresses that fast. I hope you get answers. If your current doc wont, find someone else who will help you. Good Luck
