Neck issues(not really pain)

So I stumbled upon this site only because I feel like I might be getting worse. About the time frame of last summer, I started noticing at the top of my neck(near the back of my skull) a grinding of sorts when I moved my head back and forth. As month went on it got worse and started popping as well, so for example whenever driving a car, to look left to right at a stop sign is at least two loud pops. However issue is, no one can hear the pops except me and it doesn't really cause pain, it's more just nails on a chalk board feeling everytime I look around.

So I decide to goto the doctor, first visit they can't figure anything out. I play it off and decide I need a 2nd doctor, she trys a couple of things and tells me to try a few basic exercises and claims it's just weak neck muscles.(I do work on a computer all day for work). So I give it a shot for about a month, but it just seems to get worse. So I go back a third time, the doctor asks me if my arms or hands were numb, I said no not that I can recall. So he claims he's unsure and i'd be clear to resume normal physical activity(IE: sports). However just recently for a couple a days i've experience a slight numbness in my arms and hands.

Now I only went to a family doctor, but x-rays were taken of my neck which came back fine. So I'm at a loss here. I don't really want to keep scheduling appointments for nothing, but the fact that I can't even drive a car without my neck popping is crazy.

Any Ideas that anyone might have?
