Hi, my name is Ann, and though I've joined recently, I've been an avid reader for quite some time. I find Spine-health to be one of the most comprehensive sites around.
I am currently 39 and waiting to hear from my neurosurgeon about fusion. I met with several surgeons 2 years ago, all with the same diagnosis; aggressive DDD, arthritis, spine of a 65 yr old. Was told that 3 disc fusion was my only option, but to hold off as long as possible. Well, my sciatica returned, causing me to fall down the stairs 2 months ago, and it's been down hill from there.
I've had discography, 3 MRIs, radio frequency, many, many injections, PT, rhizotomy, acupuncture. I've been on pain meds for 6 years, because too much ibuprofen caused bleeding. Tried taking Advil just once last year to see if I could stop taking opioids and threw up. Oh well.
I'm trying to deal, working from home as much as I can (technology teacher), and hoping for surgery, because I can't do anything anymore. Trying to stay positive. All the areas and forums have really helped me feel part of this community. As everyone says, unless you've lived in these shoes, you have no idea.
Thank you for letting me introduce myself!
DDD, L3-S1 almost gone. Waiting to hear about 3 disc fusion. Sciatica and arthritis. Life is like a box of chocolates...
