I'm hoping this isn't the case but after some exercise a few weeks ago I noticed a very painful lump in my abdomen, just to the left of the top of my anterior incision. The pain and swelling has persisted now for about two weeks and I'm not seeing any improvement. Do I have an incisional hernia? I googled and found this:
Some cases of anterior lumbar surgery may result in an abdominal hernia, or a weakness in the abdominal wall that allows abdominal organs to protrude. A surgery-induced abdominal hernia is also known as an incisional or ventral hernia. Incisional hernias make up about 10 to 15 percent of all hernia cases. While most hernias cause only minimal discomfort or a slight bulge in the abdomen, hernias that lead to pain and nausea may require surgery to correct" Source: eHow Health
I asked my surgeon about the pain and swelling and he said I must have popped a stitch! I'm 3 months post op!! Should those be pretty strong by now?
