Umm...I never thought I'd have to sign up on a Spine forum at my age, but here I am. Scared, confused, and in pain. I just received my MRI results from my orthopedic and it feels like the life's been sucked out of me. I have a date with a spinal surgeon in 2 weeks. I've already been experiencing debilitating symptoms such as numbness, loss of balance, and what feels like a stabbing sensation.
What does all this mean? Am I gonna need surgery??
At L2-L3 there is a large right posterior paracentral disc protrusion measuring 6.8mm resulting in severe spinal canal stenosis and moderate bilateral neural foraminal stenosis
At L3-L4 3.5mm posterior disc protrusion
At L4-L5 small protrusion measuring 2.5mm
At L5-S1 small posterior disc bulge measuring 2.6mm
The 6.8mm is the one that really scares me. Does anyone have any experience with herniated discs? I seriously don't know what to do and am freaking the hell out. Doctor threw out terms such as "spinal decompression" and "fusion" and honestly I dont know exactly what that means.
Edit: Here's the exact report i was given
Can you guys offer up advice on what I should do next? I'm at a loss right now. Thank you
