Chronic Pain in Popular Culture

  • I just read that Jennifer Anniston is filming a movie about her suffering after a car accident. She is in a chronic pain support group. Should be interesting to see how they portray it.

  • I love Dr. House, I have never seen Nurse Jackie, I'm curious about the new movie with Jennifer Anistron. The only show that comes to mind that dealt with chronic pain was, and I'm hesitant to mention a soap opera, but Y&R (currently boycotting the show) had a character a few months ago that had to deal with chronic back pain. It started out he was shot, bullet lodged near his spine causing excruciating back pain and leg pain, he went through a very painful rehab, through all this, he was taking pain meds, he was hiding the fact that he was in more pain than he let on, which lead to and addiction. He was telling everyone he was doing well, because he wanted his life back to the way it was before. He eventually began taking more than prescribed, began dr shopping and eventually he began buying them off the street. Got caught and ended up going through withdrawal.

Anyway, that's all I can think of. The only part that wasn't done correctly was the withdrawal part-he went cold turkey, nothing to help him go through this, except a woman, and was doing great and back to normal in less that 2 weeks.....Another reason to boycott the show.
