Hello everyone, my name is Kelly. I am 48 years old mother of two, grandmother of one. Our house has 2 cats, 1 dog, four guinea pigs and one hermit crab. I know, I am not on a pet site! I built modular office systems for 11 years, worked retail and was a CNA for home care. I use to spend hours gardening. I have gotten my 3 1/2 year old grandson almost every weekend since he was a month old. When I was 15 I was shot in the head and have weakness on my left side from that(which I over came.) I have bullet fragments and clips in my head so I can never have a MRI.
In 2007-2008 my back pain started, my patient at the time was a 18 year old CP, total constrict with no hoyer lift in the home. It was lower back pain and sciatica pain. By the end of 2008 I could barely walk for 5-10 minutes before being on the verge of collapsing from weakness( I had a different patient by then.) I moved from Florida back to Maryland and the home care company here gave me a complete lift patient stating he was a pivot patient, which was too much for my back. I lucked out and got a front desk job for 4 years and lost that last year. Every job I have applied for, I have been honest about my lumbar stenosis and never have been called back beyond the first interview. Its been very hard to have people say, can't you just take a fast food job until you find something. I do not think they understand, so I get that look like I am lazy. I do not get unemployment and my money has run out now. I have applied for disability and medicaid and hope to get it and with that I can get surgery and back to work training to get off of it, beside the 4 years at the doctors office, I do not have any sit down skills and this office wasn't computerized and was cashed base, no insurance accepted, I do not know any of the software that is normally used in most offices.
1. Remote appearing Schmorl's node at the superior endplate of S1, mild disc space narrowing without bulge or protrusion. The exiting neural foramina are patent.
2. At the L4-5 level, there is broad-based spur/disc impinging on the canal. The AP dimension of the thecal sac is 5mm with moderate biforaminal encroachment. There appears to be acquired superimposed on congenital canal stenosis with short pedicals evident.
3. At the L3-4 level, likewise there is acquired on congenital canal stenosis. The AP dimension of the thecal sac is 6.5mm. There is biforaminal encroachment.
4. At the level L2-3 and L1-2 levels, there is no dominate bulge, protrusion or canal stenosis.
5. No paraspinal mass seen.
6. There is very mild levoscoliosis.
I am hoping I am repairable to return to life outside of home. The worse part is I had a good period of almost a year to where I did not have the weakness, I don't know why it came back. I also feel a bit of pain now in my upper back and have numbness in my baby finger and the whole edge of my right hand. I am so tired of the tingle/numbness of the feet, it can just drive me nuts at times. In December 2013 the depression and pain got to me that I checked into a hotel to check out but somehow the police decided to check out the local hotel/motels and saw my car. My family found the notes I left. So I guess it wasn't time. They put me on prozac in the hospital and since January, I have gained 26 lbs. Which I blame on the medicine, so I know that isn't helping my back either.
I hope I can get insurance to help me fix all this. Since I never got to talk to a doctor about it, I have no idea if and what can even be done. I hope someone with some of these same problems can relay their experiences.
Edited to remove cat results and stated what I really was looking for. It would be easier to say I have spinal stenosis until someone asks what is wrong and where.
