I'm a normally fairly active person and I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to try to do about my neck. I've got bulging discs C4-7 and the C6-C7 is alarmingly herniated, to the point where it has basically blocked the whole spinal canal (oh and stenosis, DDD etc). I assume this is the result of genetics + car accidents + horseback accidents + just generally being hard on my body and having a severely inadequate idea of my limitations. I've had some trouble for years, and an MRI in 2010 showed the above but much much milder, now they describe the DDD as "moderate to severe" depending on which joint. Anyway, starting in January I had a little pain and went to the Dr., he suggested PT and I actually think that is what ruptured the disc, so I got a new MRI and here we are.
I'm going in for injections on Wednesday, now I'm on a pile of drugs and I have a couple of surgical consults scheduled. My biggest worry in all of this is that if I have surgery I won't return to a normal level of activity (in particular my equestrian activities) and that it will be a progressive situation where I keep needing more surgery for less benefit. I mean, if it is going to hurt all the time I can totally do that without surgery.
So, I'm doing a lot of reading and trying to learn about my options. Thanks for having me
