Just been diagnosed with L5/S1 disc bulge

Hi all, this is my 1st post!

I work in the health industry (australia) and while on shift I was helping move a heavy patient (over 100kgs) when I felt a pinch in my back as well as generalised pain. I filled out a workcover notification form but kept working as I figured it was only muscular.

While working nightshift 2 days later I noticed numbness & tingling going all the way down my right leg & foot. I let work know straight away & they took me off shift & had me assessed at the hospital.

I had a MRI done today, I had a peek at the report & it said I had a "very minor L5/S1 prosterior disc bulge" I have to take it to my own Dr in a couple of days to see what he says. I know the report says it's a minor bulge but it is causing me a lot of pain across my back as well as it is obviously affecting my sciatic nerve. I still have good range of movement but sitting etc can get painful quickly.

Thankfully work is very supportive and will support me with necessary time off, alternate duties etc. I'm just really worried as I love my job & I hope this doesn't affect me long term, I'm only 30!

Is a disc bulge like what I have described likely to heal, I'd like to avoid surgery or injections. I was keen to get back to the gym but I'm guessing that won't happen for a while. My physio holds pilates classes, does pilates help heal a disc bulge?

I appreciate any advice, I am just so stressed at the moment!
