Hey. I hurt my back 7 months ago through a lot of heavy lifting. The first 6 weeks were the most painfull but after that it eased a little. I still have my main problems when sitting (hurts after about 1 hour) or standing still or walking for about an hour before I have to do something else to stop the pain. I took medication for the first 4 months but stopped as they were hurting my stomach and still am getting stomach pain at night despite stopping take them. I had an xray and mri scan and they both keep back clear with some normal wear and tear in my back. My doctor told me it was mechanical back problem.
I seen a specialist before my mri and said that things should improve and I should hopefully make a fully recovery with improving my core muscles around my spine, some light exercise (walking, swimming) and lose some weight. I have been to 2 physios and then a back class. The back class seemed the most helpful as I was shown alot of exercises to help strengthen my core muscles. At the end of the class the main physio told me my back did seem very week and have to keep doing the exercises 3 times a week. It could take up to 6 months before they are strong enough. I also told her that I had an mri scan that keep back fine. I can't remember fully what she said but think it was that if I have a slight buldge then in mightn't show in a normal mri scan but might show better in a standing/sitting mri scan. Not exactly sure if I should follow up trying to have one of theses scans yet. It was a bit of hassle getting the mri scan at the start. Plus I guess the fact that I'm managing without painkillers though I'm not painfree shows I'm having improvements. I also feel that their is some improvements since say 3 months after I hurt but going at a very slow rate.
My guess is that I had a bad muscular stain on my back but if it was that would it not of healed by now? Also since it happened I have a slight clicking behind my neck that isn't painful while walking. Think doctor said it was slight ligamentous clicking and that the physio would help me with it. The physio's just wanted to focus on my lower back which is were the pain started so haven't really addressed the clicking noise. I guess in time it might go away itself. My pain moves up and down my spine and sometimes into my shoulder a little. However the pain never goes into my legs or feet etc. I never get shooting pains but more pain after doing an activity for an hour or so. The longer I do the activity the worse the pain gets. I have been walking about 4 or 5 times a week for about 45 mins and have been doing the stretches I have been told for about 3 months. Though it was only one or two stretches at the beginning. I know I need to lose about 3 stone and hope it will help. I also get pain when bending my neck such as reading etc after about 30 mins. I never had any problems before I hurt my back with sitting or reading etc and felt it go in my lower back they day I hurt it. So just wondering could it be more than a muscular strain or does anyone have any suggestions. Cheers.
