6 months and still horrendous pain

I had ACDS in November of 2013, pain prior to surgery was quite bad in the neck and headaches
I am now 6 months post surgery, the pain is worse and more ofter, the doctors say the fusion has not taken yet
Can anybody tell me what happens if the fusion didnt work and will not work, what choices will I have then
I am now seeing a pain specialist and another neurosurgeon
Thank you for your help

  • I'm not sure where you go from here. My heart goes out to you. Looks like the route of pain management is the best way to go for now, but you need to have a meaningful and objective conversation with your treating physician. HUGS

  • I had my 6 month post op and I too am in pain. Can I ask why you had your fusion? For me my neurosurgeon will not do anything else surgery wise for my pain because it has a high risk for leading to an increase of pain. I personally had my first fusion (Jan 2013) for a broken neck that caused a contusion on my spinal cord. My second surgery was due to the bruise not healing and continuous symptoms along with excess movement. I started having pain after my first surgery it was around 7/10 on the pain scale and I have constant pain. After my second surgery I am at an 8/10 with pain meds and 9/10 without . I too see a pain doctor but they don't seem to help much. Have you tried nerve injections? For some this helps, it helped me before my second surgery and I am waiting to get a referral to try it again. If you had a failed fusion most of the time you will have another fusion. My surgeon wants to see me again at the year mark because my fusion isn't healing well, if it doesn't heal then I will have another fusion. I wouldn't worry at this point, it doesn't make anything better to worry. I hope that you have a great day. If you need someone to talk to please just PM me. :)
